DJ WAY
Jazz, classical, Rn'B, blues, funk, & soul are what drives Matt aka DJ Way's
mind when he's working behind the decks. He began musical studies at The
Juilliard School, New York City receiving Bachelor and Master degrees in
double bass performance. It wasn't until spring break of 2000, Way dedicated
himself to a friend's bedroom decks. Two weeks later he opened for a local
house party! Soon thereafter, Way found himself playing numerous loft
parties around NYC.
Besides the underground scene, he worked the floors of Korova Milk Bar, The
Frying Pan, Nacho Mamas, Sin Sin, Soha, and Soundz Lounge. In 2002, as
Thursday night resident @ Float, he threw a weekly party named "Elektronic",
in conjunction with Rockstar Entertainment Group. In May 2005 the New
World Symphony ("America's Orchestral Academy") invited Way to South
Beach to join their ensemble.
From daytime playing bass to the evenings behind the decks Way has been
heard in many settings that Miami's night-life has to offer. Blue, Laundry Bar,
Sixx Lounge, A-bar, PS-14, Circa 28, & Buck 15 are just a few spots Way's
been heard. August 2007, Way won an international DJ competition hosted by
Nic Alvarado (In Soul We Trust, LA).
WMC 2008, marked the beginning of his production company, Gooshie House.
Since March, Gooshie has hosted monthly "HouseWay" parties featuring DJs
from all over the US. Most recently in Miami, Way has been heard opening for
DJ Heather, Jonn Hawley, Brett Johnson, & Justin Long. This past May, he
closed down for Lawn Chair Generals at a DEMF after-party, "Detroit Jack
City". DJ Way's popularity is growing quickly not only in south Florida, but
across the US.
